Teeth Crown

CROWNS

Teeth crowns are restoration that cover, or "caps," a tooth to restore it to its normal shape and size, strengthening and improving the appearance of a tooth. They are necessary when a tooth is generally broken down and fillings won't solve the problem. If a tooth is cracked, teeth crowns hold the tooth together to seal the cracks so the damage doesn't get worse. They are also used to support a large filling when there isn't enough of the tooth remaining, attach a bridge, protect a weak tooth from fracturing, restore fractures, or cover a badly shaped tooth or discolorations. Teeth crowns may be placed on a natural tooth or dental implants.

Types of crowns available

Metal teeth crowns containing various percentages of gold. These look very life-like, distinguished by a very good fit due to better casting of gold-containing alloys. Also, these metals are very highly polished which prevent bacteria living in micro-pores from colonizing along the edge of the cap. This means that the surround gum stays clean and healthy.

Porcelain teeth crowns are fabricated from different porcelain/ceramic materials. Lately, they have proven to be as strong as conventional metal options, with better aesthetics. Still, there are several factors that need to be taken into consideration when choosing this type. The most important factor is your bite – the way your teeth come together, and the need to cut a lot of the tooth structure away to provide for adequate thickness of such teeth crowns.

We do not recommend porcelain-fused metal options, where the inner layer of the teeth crown is a non-precious metal. Although traditional teeth crowns are much cheaper, the disadvantages of using such a metal include:

  • Poor aesthetics – unnatural looking with grey line along the gum-line
  • Gum irritation in people with metal allergies
  • This alloy usually contains beryllium, known to cause cancer

Using the most advanced dental technology we can develop porcelain fillings, veneers and crowns that are computer generated and fitted with precision and accuracy.

Typically this involves a single appointment, which means no messy temporary caps that can come off. We eliminate inconvenience and the process is minimally invasive.

Using a natural looking and biocompatible ceramic material that is metal free, we can eliminate the potential for unsightly black gum lines.
