At Dentistry by Design, if you are unhappy about the colour of your teeth, we will listen and take the time to help you get the shade that you are looking for. Having performed thousands of teeth whitening procedures in over a decade, we are experts in teeth whitening and can advise you whether teeth whitening procedures would be effective for you.
Whiteners may not correct all types of discoloration. For example, yellowish hued teeth will probably whiten well, brownish-coloured teeth may not whiten as well, and greyish-hued teeth may not whiten well at all. Accordingly, don’t waste your time and money on over the counter whitening kits, as most of them don’t work for those reasons and some can even be too acidic for your tooth enamel.If you are serious about whitening your teeth for life, contact us. |

What teeth whitening techniques are available to me at Dentistry by Design?
We use and recommend:
 Zoom!™ Professional Chairside Whitening System. It is a scientific advanced bleaching process that lightens discolouration of enamel and dentin. It is safe, simple, effective and very fast. In just over an hour, your teeth will become drastically whiter. The procedure involves covering up your lips and gums, leaving only your teeth exposed before the application of the Zoom!™ whitening gel (containing the active ingredient hydrogen peroxide). The Zoom!™ light is used to activate the whitening gel’s active ingredient. As the hydrogen peroxide is broken down, oxygen penetrates the enamel and dentin, bleaching coloured substances, breaking up stains while the structure of the tooth is unchanged.
While this is happening, you may relax comfortably by watching television or listening to your favourite music. The complete procedure takes just over an hour beginning with a short preparation period, followed by one hour of bleaching, ending with a minute fluoride treatment. However, we do recommend all Zoom!™ patients complete a hygiene appointment prior to undertaking the actual Zoom!™ session to ensure that your teeth surfaces are clean prior.
Opalescence® Tooth Whitening System. Opalescence® is a take-home product carefully supervised by us and is our most popular teeth whitening method. You are provided with custom fitted trays for your upper and lower teeth and plastic syringes containing the Opalescence® whitening gel (containing the active ingredient carbamide peroxide) to take home. The purpose of the custom fitted tray is to ensure a snug fit for the dosing of the whitening gel whilst minimising contact with gums.
Opalescence® has the added benefit of potassium nitrate and fluoride to minimise tooth sensitivity and does not leach like other take home whitening gels. We offer two types of Opalescence kits® – day or night system to fit in with your schedule. Typically, you should see results in 5-7days of your two week treatment program.
The benefit of the Opalescence® take home teeth whitening system is that you get a cost effective gradual shade improvement over time. |
